the pale tones
9th (Sunday) [Odyessy]
Showed Yun photos of 'Fair-haired
Lady'. Took awhile to explain it

composite of 4 women

Showed Sheila 'Croquet' watercolor,
'Urban', 'Lily', & 'Debutante'
Good response. Liked 'Debutante'

Time to achieve one that REALLY
means something
2nd (Sunday) [Odyessy]
3rd (Monday) [Odyessy]
Cold, overcast, erie sort of day. At
Hastings & Abbott, a drunk staggered
backwards & fell against a moving
truck. While he was lying motionless
in the street, a guy tried selling
me a dirty old suit jacket, on a
hangar, for five bucks. 10 minutes
later a cop on a bike, & a man
running, chased down a guy on
Dunsmuir, who looked a lot like
Vincent van Gogh, & sounded a
little out of his mind
4th (Tuesday) [Odyessy]
Great little chat with Cathy this
morning talked about wanting to have
an exhibition in SF. Wanted me to be
sure I told her about it well in
advance, so she could buy an airline
ticket to see it. A little ahead of
ourselves here, but it was fun
5th (Wednesday) [Odyessy]
Discovered Yun is/was married, & has
a son 9 or 10 years old. Oh brother,
what a waste of time talking to her
was. Met Diane this morning (which
was cold & damp) on Thurlow, just
off Davie. Talked about careers,
middle-aged problems, & junk food
Showed her some photos of pastels

Met Diane again, this time at
Sinclair. Just missed her at UBC
yesterday. Talked about old Sedgewick
Library. Told her I hated that bronze
glass cone. She said she loved it. We
compromised by agreeing it would have
been ok if they'd kept it properly
repaired. Walk through Stanley Park
Cold, almost freezing, & very damp
Sky a nice mixture of pale blues,
greys, & pinks. Shari amused that I
didn't open Lisa's letter till this
evening. Which as a wonderful letter
Sort of justified why I loved her
all this time

Sitting on a concrete slab,
Mitchell Island, by the river
beside Knight St Bridge at dusk,
reflections of gold & purple in
the water. Seal cruising along,
it's head just above the water
Dives under, leaving patterns of
glimmering silver on the surface
Other playing peek-a-boo in the
rocks, running along the log
booms, stopping to stand on its
hind legs occasionally, to
peer at something in the bushes
along the shore. Noisy crows in
the trees, coming & going,
making a sort of music with
traffic on the bridge. 'If you
wear that velvet dress'
24th (Monday) [Odyessy]
26th (Wednesday) [Odyessy]
Enjoyable chat with Carol & Peggy
Showed C Calvin Klein. 'Oh, how
mysoginistic.' Which we tried out
different spellings of on an
envelope. Peg thought 'U.F.' had
something to do with Saigon. Then
she said to me, 'Richard, would you
like a kiss?' Which turned out to
be little chocolates wrapped in
foil. 'She's been waiting all day
to say that to someone,' said
Carol. Said something about '... a
long French kiss,' which seemed to
me to be pushing it a little
farther

'That's a journey, isn't it?'
'It's a journey of the mind,' I
replied. She didn't seem too
impressed
6th (Sunday) [Odyessy]
Photo session from downtown to
Jackson Ave. Warm, almost hot,
under a bright sun. Said 'Happy
New Year' in Persian, to
Armita. Told her about progress

the warm spring sunshine. Short,

cutting meat at the table, & had
her books open studying

Walking with Kathy along Hastings
in a light rain. Near Howe,
someone said, 'Hi, Richard.'

Pacific. Waiting for Cambie bus,
K & I decided to share a veggie
dog some time in the future, as
the smell kept wafting over
from the corner

Armita sitting outside at
