Glimpse of Minori coming out of the
alley. What a difference a year
(less a day) makes! At Bentall,
sparkling petals of cherry blossom
thrown high into the air by strong
winds, like thousands of pink
butterflies in the cold shade of
the Royal Centre tower. Late at
night, on the balcony in White
Rock, large chunks of popcorn-
shaped clouds, irridescent in the
light of a full moon

Hiroko from the tiny island of
Genkai Jima. Her heritage was
Samurai. If the order of things
had stayed the same, she told me,
she would have been a princess
Her maiden name was Umeda, which
is plum in Japanese. Her
mother's name was Ito
