Aarathi telling me the Indian
who inspired her most was her

for the portrait

from Point Roberts to pick up
boots. Complained that she
feels 40 lbs overweight

25th (Thursday)   [Girl from Bombay]
Met Linda at Subway on Davie!
Had a good discussion about
Vancouver issues, new &
nostalgic. Told me about on old
neon sign near Burrard Bridge,
a tugboat, & walking across the
wavy sidewalks of the old
Georgia Viaduct. Saw Myle for
the first time in months. At
the parking lot behind
Japadog, where I met her to
pick up the vacuum. Hottest
day this week

26th (Friday)   [Girl from Bombay]
Text from Eve who couldn't
make it for oysters today
Apparently having a long
week at work, & her apt has
been sweltering. Text from
Myle, 'Going to the beach
now with my sister &
girlfriend now'

27th (Saturday)
On the bus home through the
'Magic Forest'. Girls face
illumined by the light of her
cellphone, tapping away at
the screen with her long
thumbnail

go bc I hurt my foot at the
beach on Friday

Made plans to do the close-up
photography in a couple of
weeks, & the oyster lunch,
possibly on Friday. Text from
Myle, 'Finally got your email
So cute =$'

31st (Wednesday)   [Girl from Bombay]

August
1st (Thursday)   [Girl from Bombay]
A refreshing breeze this
afternoon, rain late this
evening. Happy day!

2nd (Friday)   [Girl from Bombay]
Talking to Myle, who was on
Bluetooth, as she drove home
from Richmond. Told me she
has a new fear: that the
bridge will collapse as she's
driving over it. Described
her shopping junket to
Bellingham yesterday. Text
from Eve, 'So nice, much
cooler now.' Dropped by
7Eleven to appraise Aarathi
of the status of the
portrait. Learned that
Radha was Krishna's mistress,
not his wife. Cool, overcast,
with sprinkles of rain now &
then

3rd (Saturday)   [Girl from Bombay]
Mostly overcast, fairly cool

4th (Sunday)   [Girl from Bombay]
Reanne described how she
helped her mom re-decorate &
wallpaper a room at their
house in Toronto. Said she
had a great time. Return of
the warm sun

5th (Monday)
Hot in the sun, pleasant in
the shade

6th (Tuesday)
Felt like the hottest day of
the year in the sun. Text from

Myle this afternoon: 'I never
left the house today.'

7th (Wednesday)
Talking to Myle on the bus to
UBC, continuing the
conversation under a shade
tree near Koerner. Planning
to do the 'procedure' later
this month, & is worried how
it will affect her physical
& mental health

8th (Thursday)
Showed Aarathi the portrait
at Subway, on Davie. Was
totally gratified she liked
it so much. Had a great
discussion about things,
from art, politics, dance,
& cricket. Mentioned to her
that I would like to
develop an idea for a large
format drawing that she
could be in. A suggestion
she seemed amenable to
Met cousin Rhonda this
afternoon at the Yaletown
Station! Gave her a photo
of the portrait, before
Aarathi even saw it. Heat
wave continues

9th (Friday)
Talked to Myle on the phone
for 2 hours this afternoon!
A handbag discussion & her
addiction to shopping
Dropped in on Eve at G&T,
brozing through their
catalogue checking out the
pencil sharpeners. She did
a neat little doodle on a
tablet, immediately titling
it 'Wind Blowing Fire into
a Sunrise'. Another sticky
afternoon/evening. Dropped
by 7-Eleven to lend
Aarathi the portrait,
which she was SO happy to
get. Was surprised I
wanted her to keep the
prints. Told me her
parents in India liked the
portrait, except for the
chin
