A good talk with Iram, who looked great in a black jacket
over a pink t-shirt, which I made a point of emphasising
Brought Myle some ginger ale, as she wasn't feeling well
Holding the bottle as I was talking to Iram, Maggie tried
to take it out of my hand to give to Myle, as she thought
it was getting warm. All of us had a laugh about it. Tall
girl on Davie & Bute, would have been perfect for 'Reefer
Girl'. We made some lingering eye contact, as a light rain
began to drizzle through the warm air

Some sunshine, a little rain, generally muggy. Might slightly

Talking to Iram, whose fingernails were black, & she's
telling me she's not feeling great today. Maggie telling me
how much she loves Oriental orchids
21st (Tuesday) [Minori Yoshikawa Contemplates a

Myle charming this morning. Thinks I should colour my hair
brown, that I should get glasses with square frames, and
that my posture still needs some work. Told me she's going
on a detox program, & I suggested we could do it at the same
time. Wonderful little chat with Suchiyo & girl from Nagoya,
as a lovely cool autumn breeze came through the front door
Neither of them care for Kurosawa. 'Too old,' they told me
22nd (Wednesday)
Day began with an interesting discussion with Iram, and
ended with a lovely chat with Lani, who is almost always
charming. Telling me about a model airplane her father had
worked on for 53 years

Chilly, dark, rainy. Myle a little aloof today. Had a
migraine yesterday she said, & admited to eating a couple
of KitKats. Pleasant little chat with Fay, who suddenly
showed up at the Market

Maggie telling me she worked at Eaton's Lansdowne for seven
years, & how she used to have breakfast upstairs in the Marine
Room. Finally able to give Ari the large chocolate bar. She likes
hazelnuts too, she told me. Wants to buy a small dog & call it
Pushkin, because she likes the sound of the name. Explained to
her Pushkin was a Russian writer. Heavy overcast, some light rain,
& cool

Bought Myle some candy, a day before she starts her latest program
A guy playing 'Wish You Were Here' on his acoustic guitar, outside
the library, as the dark clouds moved in. Talked to Ady on the
phone tonight. Mixture of sun & cloud, quite muggy. Light rain at

restaurant. Loaned 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' to Suchiyo, & met
the new girl from Tokyo

Myle showing me yellow roses from Japanese woman, who started
her other job today. Asking (Lancome) Maggie if she wanted root
beer. 'Yes,' she replied. 'No, don't!' said Myle. Pleasant chat
with Suchiyo, & Megumi, who showed me her drawings, which
featured a little pig. Told her I thought she should give it a
a name. Clear blue skies, perfect temperature

First bike ride through Stanley Park this fall. Clear & warm
'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger' at Tinseltown this
afternoon
2nd (Saturday)
Bought McMuffin & hash browns for Myle & (Lancome) Maggie, who
told me she didn't want to lose weight, she wanted to 'eat
healthier'. (??) Clear, sunny, warm this afternoon
5th (Tuesday)
Chatting with Cindy, & this rather attractive girl who was there
a few days ago. Who is she? Talking to Bonnie who was telling me
how much she wants to see the salmon run, somewhere near Kamloops
Told her I'd like to see a picture of her knee deep in sockeye
Suggesting to Megumi that she name her cartoon character pig
'bacon', which she was highly amused with. Met Ari outside, who
showed me a sort of cake she was having for dinner. Girl at the
liquor store is from Constantinople. She has a lovely profile
Ride through Stanley Park this afternoon. Sunny, pleasantly warm

Bought Myle a bag of unsalted nuts from Purdy's. Told me the
whole floor had to wear feather boas yesterday afternoon. Hers
was bright pink, & kept her neck warm. Megumi copying her
drawing on the front window at Donbury. Promised I'd photograph
her next time she did it. Talking to the girl in the back, who
is from Hokkaido. Clear, warm

Talking to Maggie about Oriental orchids. Her Chinese birthday

Myle sombre & somewhat depressed this morning. At Donbury, Ari
telling me she has a view of Fuji from her apt in Japan, & that
on New Year's Day they go outside to watch the sun rise. As I
left, Suchiyo waved from the kitchen. Dark, heavy rain this

Another lovely little chat with Megumi, who told me she had
pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, which she was told was traditional
Wave from Suchiyo in the kitchen. Maggie describing some gadget
from China she uses to peel large green grapefruits from
Thailand. Thinks I should attend yoga
