So you're the leader of the Green Party, an institution
committed to protecting the environment and saving the planet.
You ask yourself, "What's the best thing I could do to help
achieve this goal?" - "How about running for President of the
United States? I have zero chance of winning; but I could take
crucial votes away from Al Gore, a man committed to the Kyoto
Accord, thus allowing George Bush to become President." Brilliant!
We all know how well that worked out for planet earth.
What were you thinking Ralph? What were the numbskulls who
voted for you in Florida thinking? - The corporate executives,
with their billions of dollars in Bush tax breaks, were laughing
all the way to the bank, as millions of tons of their pollutants
continued pouring into the atmosphere.
Thank you Ralph. You should have stuck to harassing the corporate
executives. At least that was time well spent.

A few reactions to this drawing:

agnes chow: "I like the elephants."

myle ha: "Who's Ralph Nader? Is he the guy everyone hates?"

maggie au-yeung: "Why you put the elephants on here?"

natalie charbonneau: "............. I don't get it."

5th (Friday)
Talking with Maggie this morning,
describing Saturna Island to her;
describing to me a certain mtn in mists
she visited in China. At London Drugs
on Davie, a girl with platinum blonde
hair, black frame glasses, green
fingernails & a charming face. Our eyes
met coming in, & leaving, when she said
to me, 'Have a good day.' Agnes back at
Sears tonight, with a scarf bundled
around her neck, telling me she was
sick & warning me not to come too close
Told her about the portrait. 'Let me
see. Let me see.' Showing her next
Monday, & she'll check the website this
weekend. Thinking about things by the
big windows at the Seymour Room, soft
evening sunlight touching the spires of
Holy Rosary. Ady phoned from Knight St
sounding very sleepy. Finished off work
on the website. Very happy with the
improvements

7th (Sunday)   [The Bush Pastel]
Lovely sunny day. Talking to Belraj,
who's taking four courses at UBC,
including one on the philsophy of Plato

8th (Monday)
Saturna Island
The pileated woodpecker made it's
appearance, starting up the hill
Butterflies with white wings edged
with black, sea hawks drifting lightly
along ocean breezes, as distant ships
turned together into the channel,
tracing out two graceful arcs. Dragon
clouds above the Olympic mtns, a
million diamonds sparkling on the
water. A lovely place to spend eternity

9th (Tuesday)
  [The Bush Pastel]
Myle back at work telling me she's
been sick. Asked why I phoned the other
night & hung up again after one ring -
again... Showed Agnes the portrait,
which she liked better than the first...
Talked to Vesna, & Ady, on the phone
tonight

10th (Wednesday)   [The Bush Pastel]
...Picked up the chair at Vesna's. Spent
2 1/2 hours there talking. A long day

11th (Thursday)   [The Bush Pastel]
Myle talking about preparations for her
wedding. Wearing a Vietnamese & a Chinese
dress, & can't decide on the color decour
Suggested blue & silver... First ride
through Stanley Park, this afternoon in
the warm sun

12th (Friday)   [The Bush Pastel]
...Picked up the chair at Vesna's. Spent
2 1/2 hours there talking. A long day

13th (Saturday)   [The Bush Pastel]
Had a strong inspiration this morning to
start gathering material for 'Reefer Girl
(Alice in Wonderland). The thought is to
begin sometime in November

14th (Sunday)   [The Bush Pastel]
Sunny, warm

15th (Monday)   [The Bush Pastel]
Telling Myle about how deep my frustrations
are concerning my feelings for Minori. Got
the same advice I get from everyone. Some
nice football, Dallas/Eagles this evening
On CBC Radio, heard that Richard Wright
had passed away

16th (Tuesday)   [The Bush Pastel]
Agnes Chow there in the morning. Told her
I'd bring her the photos on Thursday
morning. After that the day was a wreck...

17th (Wednesday)
Horseshoe Cafe, Bellingham, Wash. A foxy
girl, sitting in the booth. 'Fall of Japan'
in the back seat of the car, in Bellis Fair
parking lot, in the warm sun, windows
rolled down, feeling very fall-like, reading
and alone with my thoughts

18th (Thursday)   [The Bush Pastel]
Cool, overcast

19th (Friday)   [The Bush Pastel]

Gave Agnes two large photos of the portrait
& the email from Susan that said she was a
'truly beautiful girl'. Got me to sign the
back of the photos. Told me she hadn't
talked to Minori yet, but that she would
soon. Had that nice feeling of optimism for
the rest of the day. Myle with bangs this
morning. Brought her two muffins from Tim
Horton's. Ady's last day at work. She came
over & we filled her EI maternity
application on the computer, & then walked
with her to the doctor's office on Burrard

20th (Saturday)   [The Bush Pastel]
A lovely girl in the grocery line-up. Dark
skin, curly black hair, a little of the
plump side. She had a dozen or so green
apples & two lemons to make an apple pie,
she told me. Nice little chat

21st (Sunday)
After Ryder Cup, met Ann at 7-Eleven,
Burrard, went across the street with her
to visit Audrey in the hospital. She was
feeling much better, chatting up two
doctors in the hallway. Met Janis & her
daughters at Kims, just as a heavy rain
started to fall

22nd (Monday)
Image of Minori (I think it was her)
walking down Drake, against a strong,
hazy white light from the eastern sky,
that she seemed to nearly dissolve into,
before she turned the corner on Hornby
The image stayed with me all day. 'Vicki
Cristina Barcelona' third time, 2nd at
Tinseltown. Japanese girl at food fair
with very nice hands
