2nd (Thursday)
Myle her charming best this morning. 'I was
attacked this morning,' she told me. 'What!?'
I replied, thinking it was some problem on
Skytrain. 'Crows,' she said. Described her
wedding cake & the dilemma with invitations
Asked the girl from Nagoya if I could do a
drawing of her. Yes, she said. Her name is
Akiko

3rd (Friday)
Self-portraits (myself.jpg) for Facebook
Taking photos of Akiko on Georgia, in the
shade of the TD Tower. Reading Gaudi at
City Market, in lovely light & echoes there
Showed Marcus, 'Pulling the Plug'. Hot day,
with a breeze

4th (Saturday)
Girl at Waterfront couldn't check out
'Pulling the Plug', her computer screen
broke down. Her name is Phoebe. Another
very hot day. Stretching paper for the
portrait

5th (Sunday)
High overcast, muggy. Quick little visit
to Richmond Centre & right back home talking
to Heather on the phone, who is having some
bad pain in her abdomen

6th (Monday)   [Girl from Nagoya]
Vesna dropped by for a minute, showing off
her Mediterranean tan. Showed Natalie the
photos of Akiko. Thought she looked 'tired'
in the one I've chosen. Overcast, cool,
but only a sprinkle of rain

7th (Tuesday)   [Girl from Nagoya]
Cool, rainy

8th (Wednesday)   [Girl from Nagoya]
Met Mary on the elevator, going down in the
pouring rain told me she was going back to
school in Sept, taking a course in law
Later in the morning met Belraj outside
Law Courts (Howe side) who was running late
to meet someone for a tour. Is working at
Mac's, Queensboro. Long talk with Natalie,
& Myle, who asked, 'How did The Beatles
die? Did they die yet?'

9th (Thursday)   [Girl from Nagoya]
Myle describing a session with her workout
instructor, who seems a bit like a drill
sergeant. Finally able to tell Akiko that
I started the portrait. Showed me how she
burned her hand, poor girl. In July
sunshine, Granville, a guy strumming 'Wish
You Were Here' on electric guitar

10th (Friday)   [Girl from Nagoya]
Printed webpage150 & showed it to Myle
'Did you write this?' she asked. 'That's
so nice.' Talking to Akiko for 10 minutes
or so. Her last name is Hatano. Sunny,
warm

11th (Saturday)   [Girl from Nagoya]
Phoebe checked out 'Pulling the Plug', but
seemed totally confused by it. 'What was
that thing near the bottom?' Gave Natalie,
& the girl from Makeup Forever, who is
from Trinidad, some of the carrot cake
Natalie did an amusing imitation of Agnes
Chow, which was anything but flattering
'Do you think she was evil?' she asked
Trying to describe the meaning of 'Pulling
the Plug' & the girl from Trinidad
remarked that 'she's taking control'. The
girl is intelligent, charming, & beautiful
Makes me think of the women in Gauguins
paintings. Hotter than yesterday

12th (Sunday)   [Girl from Nagoya]
Another long talk with Natalie, joined by
the girl from Trinidad. N discouraging me
to say hi to Agnes when I go to Oakridge,
basically telling me she's a nasty person
I wondered if she had said anything bad
about me to Minori. Natalie said, 'I know
how much you liked Minori...' It was nice
to hear something a little sympathetic &
gentle for a change. N wants a very dark,
moody portrait of herself. Tonight,
developed ideas for that portrait &
another one

13th (Monday)
Apt cleaning in the morning, a little
Facebook organizing in the evening

15th (Wednesday)
Myle her charming best this morning
Told me she had a bad day yesterday,
broke down crying & threatened to quit,
AND she was unhappy with the photos taken
a couple of days before. Her face broke
out & her hair was too flat. Reassured
her, & brought her 2 hot waters, one with
more honey, the other less. Met Heather
at Sinclair, & then green tea at Bon Ton's
on Broadway. Walking along both sides of
Broadway in the shade of the trees
Drinking tea in the shade of steps behind
Safeway, under two huge pine trees. A
long memorable conversation. An hour or
so later talking to Lani at the Thurlow
store, & in the evening with Vesna on
the phone, who had a great time in Las
Vegas
