Stretched paper for the portrait. Lovely warm morning,
overcast in the afternoon with a sprinkle of rain, &
then sunshine. Talked to Lani, who needs a name for her
'group'. Something with 'rain' in it. Told me she
thought I was good at titles
16th (Friday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Wonderful talks with Iram, & Myle who told me she ate
2 large bowls of rice & threw up violently
17th (Saturday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
A long talk with Reanne. Discussed the 'Empress' project,
the concept of which she understands perfectly. Myle
suggesting I should visit her father's grave, that we
could meet there. We talked about our programs, & how
we should try to inspire each other. Bought her an
avocado smoothie from Joyeaux
18th (Sunday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Watching Door's documentary, with Vesna, who was
critiquing the portrait, complaining that, among other
things, the eyes were too small
19th (Monday)
A sick day. Myle & Vesna called to ask how I was doing
20th (Tuesday)
Sick day #2. Myle called in the afternoon, & Vesna
called a few times in the evening
21st (Wednesday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Myle called in the morning. Discussed bladder infections,
Vancouver Marathon, a how Vicki should find a job as a
secretary in a law office. Another lovely chat with
Iram, who tells me she reads the Einstein book every
night before she goes to bed, & that Reanne wants to
borrow it when she's finished. Lovely cool overcast day
talking to Vesna on the phone, who told me I didn't get
her mouth right on her portrait; & that I didn't get
Minori's right either. Nice hockey result from L.A.
Canucks 6/Kings 4
22nd (Thursday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Myle very nervous this morning about the gala. Long
talk with Iram, who described her visit to Bosnia
Showed me an example of the shade of green, & sienna
she'd like for the background of the portrait
23rd (Friday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Talking to Iram, Myle, & Natalie, who was working at
Sears this morning. 'How's Henry doing?' I asked. 'No,
it's back to Liam,' she replied

Myle telling me she thinks she might be up to 103 lbs

Long talk with Iram this morning, who was a little
upset with the counter politics that was going on
Going next week to check out cellphones. Watching
'Amazing Race' with Vesna, who when she saw canals in
Shanghai, smirked & said, 'Those Chinese, they copy

26th (Monday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Shannon Falls. Had lunch at Troll's with Vesna, on
the way back. Was already quite dark, heavy gusts of
wind, & threatening rain as we passed over Lions Gate
Bridge
27th (Tuesday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Talking to Reanne this morning, who just returned from
3 days in Whistler. We both have a desire to see famous
waterfalls across the world. Told me they have impressive
ones in Guiana, South America
28th (Wednesday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Looking at cellphones on Robson, with Iram, & then we
had tea at Starbucks, Chapters. Around 6 o'clock returned
to the Temple to see Myle. Had dinner with her on Robson,
including soup with chicken & corn, which was marvellous
Sunny, warm afternoon. Doors video, & then down the
Rabbit Hole
29th (Thursday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Picked something up for Myle at Brentwood. Wasn't able to
talk with Iram, but the girl she works with (with the nice
hands) waved 'Hi!' Sweet girl. Talking to Vesna on the
phone
30th (Friday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Showing Iram the new cellphone this evening. Told me her
son recognized the photo of the outline I sent, saying
'That's you,' when she pointed it out to him. Met Lani on
Davie & Hornby

1st (Saturday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Showing Myle the cellphone. She looked lovely in white
this morning. Bought her an avocado smoothie from
Joyeaux. Talking with Reanne for a bit, who also looked
great in white, with a flower in her hair. Vesna
stopped by for a minute on her way to some May Day
party. She had a lovely yellow scarf, & nice perfume
Sent a message to Iram, saying I'd finally finished the
outline
2nd (Sunday)
Wondering how Myle did in the Marathon? Dark, rain, wind,
cold on the way back from Abbotsford
3rd (Monday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Talking to Iram this morning, sent her a text message in the
afternoon. Sunny, clear : cold in the shade, warm in the sun
4th (Tuesday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
A couple of text messages to/from Myle, who finished the
Marathon, but could barely walk the next day. Messages from
Vesna, informing me that Tito died on this day. Talking to
Reanne about yesterday's hockey game. Sun, rain, chllly
The bubble deflated this morning after 27 years, a good
riddance
5th (Wednesday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Iram telling me she's working on a drawing of butterflies
6th (Thursday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Received first call on cellphone, from Myle. Talked to
her a few times in the next hour, as she described her
Marathon experience. Showed me her medal in the
afternoon & we talked for nearly an hour. Can't deny
that...
7th (Friday) [Portrait of Iram Lin]
Lovely, warm sunny day, with a bit of a breeze. Talked
briefly with Iram, who seems nervous about seeing the
portrait. Myle with a large cold sore on her lip
Brought her hot water & an avocado smoothie. The
Shaughnessy walk this afternoon. Reading 'Light My
Fire' from the terrace, & texted Myle. (She texted
back a few minutes later : 'Thanks, Richard'). The
blossoms, & the sun filtering through the leaves on
the boulevard, were lovely
8th (Saturday)
Text from Myle saying she called in sick with the
cold sore, & how much the medication cost. Iram with
a charming smile this morning, looking elegant in
heels. Vesna & I squeezed into the chair together,
watching 'Manhatten'
9th (Sunday)
Mother's Day in Abbotsford. Clear, warm
10th (Monday)
Text from Iram, who has to postpone seeing the portrait
until Wednesday. Lovely little talk with Myle, as it
always is these days... Vesna called to say she got the
job in North Van. Clear, warm

Two text messages from Myle
13th (Thursday)
Showing Reanne the similarity between 'Emotions' &
'Jellyfish, Evolving'. Told me she's postponed her
wedding until next year, somewhere in the Caribbean,
not Trinidad which she said was too dangerous. Began
research for 'Empress', Reanne posting an ad for
Japanese models. Iram telling me she might be able to
come over on Saturday to see the portrait. 'Phantom
of the Opera', tonight at Vesna's
15th (Saturday)
Myle back at work looking a little tired with a
migraine, & the sore on her lip looking very red &
raw. Told me Maggie asked her, in Chinese, if I was
dating anyone. Iram & her son came over to see the
portrait. She has a special beauty & intellect, &
her boy is a nice little kid
18th (Tuesday)
Myle saying she wants to spend 10 grand on getting
her teeth enameled. Vicki & I trying to discourage her
'No one can stop me,' she replied, in her sweetest
little girl voice. Talking to Reanne, who looked good
in glasses. Told me she doesn't want the Blackhawks
to win. Natalie back at work! Told me she's gained 31
lbs, & that her child's name will be Abbie if a girl,
Liam if a boy... Dark, steady rain in the morning,
sunshine & lovely fresh air in the afternoon
