Sunny afternoon. Stretched paper for the drawing. Wasn't
able to talk to Eve, but got a little wave from her. Season
finale of 'Survivor'
20th (Monday) [Girl from the Kingdom of
The Morning Calm]
Myle with a migraine this morning. Bought her a Coke, & she
took some medication, & felt much better. Gave me two gifts
wrapped in red paper. Talked to her on the phone this
afternoon, helping her compose a letter to Human Resources
at Sears. Another enjoyable chat with Eve at London Drugs
21st (Tuesday) [Girl from the Land of the
Morning Calm]
Met an intriguing Korean girl at the library this morning
Her name is Ki Yeon Jeong. An intellectual with a sense of
humour, a gentle touch, with a faint essence of kimchi
22nd (Wednesday) [Girl from the Land of
the Morning Calm]
Myle's new program to start on Xmas, telling me she plans to
hardly eat at all that day. Bought her a chocolate muffin
Three hundred dollars in my pocket from Cindy to convert to
American$ tomorrow. Myle called three or four times in the
afternoon, & twice in the evening. Exchanged a couple of
text messages with Ki Yeon. Dropped in on Ady who looked cute
in a Santa Claus hat. 'Have you heard anything from the
mystery girl?' she asked. 'Minori?' I replied. 'Your dream
girl,' she said. Sent me off with a lovely little sandwich,
which tasted delightful down the Rabbit Hole. Talking to
Narae, who admires Jackson Pollock & Andy Warhol. Trying to
describe a work she finished, something to do with coffee

23rd (Thursday) [Girl from the Land of
the Morning Calm]
Received a crystal buddha pendant from Maggie this morning. This
afternoon bought Myle a Japadog from Robson. Dark outside &
driving rain. Reanne telling me she's started work on the
'Oriental Horse'. Described the concept I was developing for the
project, & had a wonderful talk with her & her co-worker, who
seemed a charming girl, & said she wanted to see the jellyfish
we'd finished earlier this year. At Donburi, Sachiyo sitting
with someone new, a pretty girl from Osaka, with short hair & a
round face. Her name is Eri
24th (Friday) [Girl from the Land of
the Morning Calm]
Woman at Market Place this morning: high heel boots, long grey
coat, long brown hair, & wearing a hate you might see on Leonard
Cohen. The perfect image of an Oriental Queen. Glimpse of Narae
at Starbucks as they were cleaning up, & turning off the lights
Across the street someone playing 'Stairway to Heaven' through
an amplifier

27th (Monday) [Girl from the Land of
the Morning Calm]
Eri from Yokohama very gentle & charming this afternoon. Touched
hands with her, chatted about Xmas, & she gave me a little bag of
Japanese candy. Aili came out of the bathroom, her hair untied,
falling to her shoulders, & framing her face, which was gorgeous
Walking home through the rain an idea for a series of collages
featuring all the girls at Donbury Ya. Dark, heavy rain continues
28th (Tuesday) [Girl from the Land
of the Morning Calm]
Lovely girl in the Naru restaurant down below. She was wearing a
beautiful blouse but, she said, she's Korean, from a town about an
hour by train from Seoul
29th (Wednesday) [Girl from the Land
of the Morning Calm]
Brought Myle hot water & mixed nuts from Purdy's. Talked five or
six times with her on the phone this afternoon. Got a little box
of chocolate from Eri (Yokohama). A little banter with Sachiyo &
Aili, & Chisato telling me she wants to enter the Sun Run next
year before she returns to Japan in May. Clear day. The snow of the
mountains shimmering white at dusk. End of the year hug from Ady at
Subway
30th (Thursday) [Girl from the Land
of the Morning Calm]
Brought Myle hot water & Japadog from Robson. Says she's
determined to lose weight in Hong Kong, & wants me to take
'before & after' shots of her face, to compare after she gets
back. Cold & clear. Walking over 1st Ave Viaduct at dusk, the
white on the Lions shimmering with a cold, dim lustre in the
failing light, below it the red lights on the big waterfront
cranes
31st (Friday)
Bought Myle some jelly candy this morning, and then headed for
the depot. The Valley & Mt. Baker looking lovely in the winter

2nd (Sunday)
Talking with Reanne, each of us inspiring the other with
descriptions of our ideas for 'Oriental Horses'. Myle annoyed
that the $50 million had been won before I purchased our ticket
Gave Sachiyo & Aili a couple of truffles. Sachiyo laughed when
I grabbed them out of her hand, after she told me her
resolution was to lose 15 lbs. I promised to bring her celery,
& help her with her English this year
4th (Tuesday)
Gave Iram & Reanne each a truffle. Myle's last day before
leaving for Hong Kong. Went with her to Hotel Vancouver to
return one of her handbags. Image of her in front of the mirror,
