Postcard from Lisa!! -?
Lunch with Myle at Eaton's this
afternoon. Gave her the portrait I
finished on the 27th. Learned that
she was born in Saigon, & came here
when she was two. One of her
grandmothers was French. This
afternoon at White Spot, Arbutus,
thinking about Lisa & Myle. Nice
win by Grizzlies downtown tonight,
beating Portland
12th (Monday)
Asking Myle if she was interested
in seeing the new Woody Allen movie
Wasn't sure who he was. 'Does he
have blonde hair?' 'Annie Hall?' I
asked her
'No, I ate the last one.'
Stretched the paper this afternoon
13th (Tuesday)
Five minutes talking with Myle the
best part of the day. Research, &
sorting out ideas for 'Science'
Dropped in on Betty, who showed me
her new $2000 red Italian dress,
that she paid $300 for. She carries
the photo of 'Genesis' around in her
purse. Told me it's her favourite
work of art

Math work, UBC, this afternoon
Started the outline this evening

Enjoyable talk with 'Saskatoon' woman
Appreciates, & despises, a lot of the
things I do. Told her the title of the
new drawings. She asked if I was being
sarcastic. Mentioned the idea of a
portrait to the girl at Granville
Island, who thought wearing a black
apron wouldn't be colourful enough
Asked if she was going to school. 'I
graduated last year.' 'Art school?'
'High school. I'm just a baby.'
18th (Sunday)
Walking through downtown in the pouring
rain, looking for 'Joshua Tree'. One
last place to check out on Granville,
when I was totally frustrated. It was
there, at the best price too. Another
simple lesson in perserverance

Sharing french fries with Myle at Pac
Centre Food Fair. Asked her what she did on
her day off. 'Shopping.' - 'At Oakrdige?' -
'Everywhere.'

Perfect spring afternoon, cherry blossoms
in the West End streets in full bloom
Reading O'Keffe upstairs at the Market,
& bright with sunshine

Finally got a chance to talk to the girl
at Opus with the curly hair. When I came in
she was helping a little girl colour in a
picture with wax crayons. Has some knowledge
of cameras & photography & was charming to
talk to

Finally got Myle outside for five minutes to
photograph her hand holding a hairbrush. 'Is
that the TD Tower?'

Saw 'Enemy at the Gates' at Capital 6
Mediocre script, although some of the images
intriguing in an artifical way
30th (Friday) [Our Precious Science]
Talking with a charming Mexican girl at
the Deli. Told me she lived within a 10
minute drive of Frida Kahlo's house in
Mexico City. Enjoyable talk with Fijian
girl at the Bay, & 'baby' at Granville Island
who was wondering what sort of practical joke
to play on customers on April Fools Day
31st (Saturday) [Our Precious Science]
Another little talk with the girl from Fiji,
who told me she was raised in Edmonton, that
the language she speaks is a sort of Hindi
slang, & that she hates rain

Call from Charlene this afternoon, who'd
just recovered a stolen car on 4th Ave

Asked 'baby' if she'd be interested in
being in a portrait. Seemed a little bit
shy of the idea. Stalled a bit, but I
reassured her, & she said, 'Sure, but not
on the weekend.'

Letter from Lisa! Another enjoyable talk
with Fijian girl, who told me she'd always
wanted a portrait of herself with a snake,
'Plus something else, but I can't tell you
here.'

Restaurant at Kingsway & Tyne
recommended to me by Fijian girl. Told me
she'd love to be in a portrait, with a
snake, specifically a cobra. Meeting her
on Monday

Masters this afternoon, won by Woods
9th (Monday) [Our Precious Science]
Sitting with Eshaleen downstairs at the
Bay. Showed her some artwork which she
was enthusiastic about, & discussed the
portrait idea. Asked what she wanted to
wear. She paused, & then said, 'Nothing -
nude.' Talking with new Korean girl,
whose name is Mun Jung, from an island
she said was known for its tangerine
orchards. Talked to Myle for the first
time in a week. No portrait she said,
until she's down to 95 lbs
10th (Tuesday) [Our Precious Science]
Finished drawing this evening. Turned out
fine, though I felt sick through most of
it
11th (Wednesday)
Walked all the way to White Spot,
Arbutus on a perfect spring afternoon
Enjoyed the meal & reading O'Keefe, &
thinking about Lisa
12th (Thursday)
Sitting with Eshaleen, at the counter
of La Souperie, who was trying to make
a deal on the portrait
