tables behind Risako, who was
describing an unusual Japanese movie,

of cigarette smoke. Behind us a very
foxy girl with a fantastic head of
curly black hair. Met Dorothy again,
but she was called away before I
could show her any photos. 'Sorry, I
have to ditch you.'

colours, & the sweet, cool air were

Risako complaining about Tamara. Had
a theory that East Europeans looked
down on Asians. Ho Im a lot of fun to
talk to. Picked up on the significance
of the book in the drawing. 'She's got
hope.'
2st (Saturday)
Working in the 'submarine aisle' at
Main Library, UBC. Stopped by ABC on
the way back. Showed the girl with
the pretty name photos of the large
drawings. Picked 'Urban Desert' as
being the one that intrigued her the
most. Also included 'Fair-haired
Lady', and 'Memorandum', which
she'd turned on to after she'd read
the title. Emma was working, & said,
'Guess who's here?' Jenn working at
the counter. Came over & chatted &
it was great. Pointed out which
rings she was wearing, were in the
drawing. Paid me a very nice
compliment to one of the customers
Felt very good walking back across
the bridge. Very heavy rain this
afternoon, but it brightened up &
was fresh & beautiful just before
evening

eating a hot dog, & how she reacted,
& how he reacted. This afternoon a
great chat with 'Thai girl'. Told
me about casting objects in sand,
wood carving, & watercolour

dark sort of purple/browns. Told
her she looked like an art student,
which she turned out to be. Took
set decoration at one of the
colleges. Interested in seeing
some of the drawings. Beautiful
walk across the bridge, with a
fine rain falling through
sunshine that came in & out from
behind stormy clouds
