While working on various portraits and such, I'll often test the density or color of a mixture of watercolour on small chunks of Arches or Waterford. Which I used to fill up on both sides, and then discard. Eventually I realized that these splashes and swirls of color were sort of intriguing, pleasing to the eye in an abstract way.

And though I have no particular aptitude for it myself, I'm quite fascinated by the descriptions of objects people, particularly women, see in these abstractions. I could, and in fact I did, spend hours listening to them.
