'neat freaks, with a description
of her Japanese roomate's behaviour

when she cooks. Said that her mom
told her she shouldn't get married

First photo session this spring on
& below Patullo Bridge. Not quite
in the groove artistically, but
happy with my energy level

6th (Monday)   [Spring Fuji]
Met Hanna on Davie. Had quite a long
chat. Showed her some of the drawings
[Odyssey, Factory G. & Memo.,
Seduction, & the 3 portraits. Thought
Trish was 'beautiful' & picked
Odyssey as being 'special'. Ho Im
liked Seduction the most, which
surprised me. Stressed that it was
all metaphors. 'I know. I didn't say
anything,' she replied, which I
think Hannah said as well. Showed
bakery girl same shots. She picked
Factory Girl. A lady waiting in line
commented on the portrait of Trish
[Noticed Ho Im has very small ears
Said that it meant she would 'live
short'

Dropped in on Rhonda, at Restoration
Hardware, 10th & Granville

8th (Wednesday)   [Spring Fuji]
Showed Goretti the portrait at
3 o'clock in that area below where
they sometimes exhibit work. Very
positive response. Called it her
'mid-afternoon look'. Was impressed
with how real the jacket looked
Wished that her bangs had been
straight. Trimmed them herself on 'a
bad day'. Learned she plays piano &
bass guitar. Worried callouses on
her fingers might affect her piano
playing. 'Discussion' with Harman
this afternoon, which has me
wondering what her feelings are

9th (Thursday)   [Spring Fuji]
Lonsdale Quay with Shari, & all that
entails. Still thinking about the
Harman thing. Sipping hot chocolate,
with a chocolate wafer, the downtown
skyline across the water, under a
heavy grey sky

10th (Friday)   [Spring Fuji]
Ho Im poured me a little coffee
sweetened with brown sugar. She had
a certain charm this afternoon. Said
her mom has a special recipe for kim
chi

blue/green sunset. Dropped in on
Betty again, & then the Japanese

they make pickles from the fruit of
a plum tree

15th (Wednesday)   [Spring Fuji]

brief, but pleasant chat with
London Drugs girl, who has an
unusual name, Harmon. Saw 'An
Ideal Husband' with Shari. She
looked good in green, & had a

'Yeah, that's Jenn - all attitude.' ??

27th (Tuesday)   [Summer Fuji]
Betty came over tonight, from about
9:30 to 12:30, to see the large

was outstanding. She has a very
impressive intellect. On the way

Dropped in on Betty this afternoon,
who was sick with the flu. Spanish
Banks this evening, the hottest &
most humid of the year. Patterns of
bluish-gray clouds filling the sky,
making a beautiful soft light
Woman's kite fluttering in the
cool breeze, the downtown skyline
just below it

7th (Saturday)   [Summer Fuji]
Young girl sitting on the sidewalk
on Granville. Overcast, cool, a
light rain falling. Dishevelled
blonde hair with strands of bright
pink in the front. Pack on the
ground beside her, a kitten in her
lap, she was crying when I went
inside. A little later she told me
she was from San Fransisco, & that
her fiancee had 'ditched' her (I
think that was the verb). Earlier
that morning asked her about the
cat. Said she had smuggled it in
around the border crossing. Legit
or not, she had a certain gentle
charm, & I couldn't resist
helping her out a bit

8th (Sunday)   [Summer Fuji]
Watched 'Strange Days' from
midnight to 2:30. Loaned to me by
Betty in exchange for 'Blade

Working on draft of trig functions
in terms of ylength & hlength
Sitting at corner table, reading
the 'Square root of -1' book, at
Barn Cafe on a sunny, warm
afternoon. Met the woman with
black hair on Davie in front of
Holly Lodge. Told me she was into
acting, & had recently worked in
a small independent film. Felt
strangely ecstatic talking to her,
& a little surreal, like the
street scenes in 'Strange Days',
with the crowds of people flowing

past us towards the fireworks
Peter Gabriel song

12th (Thursday)
Drinking hot chocolate & coffee
with Betty at Starbuck's, Denman
Had comfortable chairs around the
fire, through the big windows the
sky was dark, & it had the feeling
of fall. Were there nearly 2 hrs

Showed Harmon the photos of
'Factory Girl'. Asked me if I
minded if she asked what I did
for a living. Said she was
wondering because I was 'so
interesting'. Asked me my name,

Punjabi. Felt good the rest of
the evening

nights near the end

examining the work up close. Betty
warned not to touch the paintings
Both of us impressed with the Degas
& Renoir
