17th (Sunday)
Overcast, cool weather continues. Texted Myle about
a racoon in the crow's nest outside, comfortably
sleeping. British Open, won by Darren Clarke
18th (Monday)
Galiano Island. Lovely visit there with Chisato,
including an amazing encounter with two owls, &
awhile later two butterflies. Sipping rum & Coke on
the Bluffs, while Chisato lay sleeping in the grass,
dozens of 'tombos' hovering around us in the warm
air. Found a charming little cove near the bottom of
Mt. Galiano. All things considered, a very special
day
19th (Tuesday)
Myle upset with Maggie, again. Called later in the
evening, saying she wasn't upset but was very tired
Reanne showing me, on her iPhone, a photo of the
flower she'd made, which was quite impressive. Said
I was proud of her. 'Thanks dude!' she replied
Promised 'Tokyo Girl' I'd bring the photos tomorrow
22nd (Friday)
Told Myle about the owl, & the butterfly experience
on Galiano. Told me that Chinese consider owls bad
luck, & that she wasn't sure about butterflies, but
was frightened of them, & dragonflies too
23rd (Saturday)
Candy for Myle, & a green banana with 'no pigmentation'
Quite a long talk with Eve this morning, who is
planning to do the seahorse sometime in August. Texts
to & from Chisato & Myle. Connected with Kiyeon on
Skype. This time we could both see each other, & she
could hear me. I couldn't hear her, but her smile was
lovely as ever. Showed 'Tokyo Girl' a few portraits, &
when I suggested I do a portrait of her, her face lit
up with the widest smile. Ideas for a portrait of her,
& Chisato
24th (Sunday)
'What's that button on your shirtsleeve?' I asked. Myle
jumped back, with a little shriek. 'I thought you said
"bug",' she laughed. 'I'm terrified of bugs.' Talked to
Yana for the second time, this morning. Showed her the
portraits of Melinda & Nat, & two of the Fujis. Has a
gentle, musical voice, & seems to be interested in art
Would like to do a portrait of her. Indian girl at Capers
with a lovely profile, highlighted by brief bits of
summer sunshine reflected into the room. Appropriately,
her name was Sunny. Canadian Open golf at Shaughnessy,
won by Sean O'Hair
25th (Monday)
Gave Chisato some photos from the Galiano Island trip,
and arranged to meet her on Wednesday to take photos
Sachiyo describing the barbecue at Spanish Banks,
drinking beer & scotch. Asked if I was on Facebook
