18th (Tuesday)
Nice talk with Maggie this morning. Showed her the shots
of Belraj. She has a very artistic eye, & had some good
suggestions. Telling me about her fascination with
fireflies, & could imagine them flying about against a
field of stars. Talking with Rui Li, who is interested in
seeing the portrait on the website when it's finished

19th (Wednesday)
Loaned Maggie the Tusk CD, and gave her one of the Guerlain
perfumes. She gave me a container of some kind of Chinese
casserole with white rice, that she made for Myle's trip to
Winnipeg. Visited Ady & Tofik this afternoon at their home
on 64th Ave. Tofik waiting on the front steps, holding the
baby in the lovely warm sunshine. Good conversation, with
beer, soup, & something described as 'fried wheat', which was
a perfect snack food
20th (Thursday) [Portrait of Belraj contemplating Plato]
Myle sitting beside a little heater this morning. Leaving for
Winnipeg this afternoon, with her pillow & blanket that she
squeezes into a vacuum pack. Bought her a croissant & hot water
with seven seconds of honey. Leaving the store it was extremely
dark, with heavy rain. Late this afternoon the autumn sun came
out at Nicola & Davie, for a minute or two, from behind the
black clouds & bare wintry branches. English Bay in a lovely
soft haze
28th (Friday) [Portrait of Belraj contemplating Plato]
Pure November, dark, heavy rain all day. Myle wearing rubber
gloves, cleaning glass shelves in the counter, 'supervised' by
Cindy. Buying her laptop tonight
29th (Saturday) [Portrait of Belraj contemplating Plato]
Coming in out of the rain, a glimpse of a pretty Oriental face on
the other side of the glass. Coming through the door I heard her
say 'Hi!' The girl from 714, she was SO charming. Gave her a card
hoping the work will make a good impression. Have to figure a way
to meet her again soon. Belraj not working today
