Escape from downtown to Abbotsford for the day. Mostly
overcast, cool, no rain. A much better beginning to
summer/fall than a year ago
2nd (Monday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Golden glow of light this afternoon. This evening, the
star blazing orange. 'Eyes Without a Face' & 'China
Girl', as I worked on the outline, which went very well

3rd (Tuesday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Documentary 'When You're Strange', & then down the
Rabbit Hole...
4th (Wednesday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Girl at Donbury from Nagoya. Her name is Megami, & she
has a lovely little face. A sticky, humid afternoon
5th (Thursday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Myle back from Portland, where she went on a clothes
buying spree. Brought her hot water & American
currency from VBCE. Bonnie seeming a little apprehensive,
& at the same time excited about seeing the finished
portrait. Another muggy, humid day with a dirty haze
through downtown. A fiery orange sun again, around
eight
6th (Friday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Talking to Myle two or three times this afternoon &
again about ten this evening, just before the documentary
'Thrilla in Manila'. Walk through Jericho Park to the
crab wharf at Lacarno, with Vesna. Grey on the western
horizon, with a chilly breeze. Good shots of the lovely
sky, & the wind tossing Vecha's hair that turned out
quite well
7th (Saturday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Brought Myle hot water, & seaweed fries from Japadog
Had some fun teasing her about her spending in Portland
We came to the conclusion later, on the phone, that she
didn't have a passion so much for spending as for
collectiong, & that her closet was like an exhibition
of fine art. Encouraged me to find the book 'Confessions
of a Shopaholic'. Showed Lancome Maggie still life, &
portrait of Sachiyo. Later she asked could I please
bring her a filet of fish meal, with root beer, from
McD's? She rather sweet. Cool, light misty rain falling

Walking along Sunset Beach, English Bay, with Vesna
9th (Monday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Telling Myle about the sore on Vesna's lips. Asked me
the provocative question, 'For $50,000 would you kiss
her?' Bought her Won Ton Soup from Nexts on Robson, &
2 hot waters. Describing to Sachiyo how beautiful it
was on Saturna, & ordered the octupus. Met Hanna on
Bute, and had an enjoyable talk on the sidewalk, in
the shade of a tree. Describing a video she made, &
sent to her father on his 70th birthday. Overcast, with
light rain this morning
10th (Tuesday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Some laughs with Myle this morning, & brought her more
Won Ton from Nexts. Nice chat with Bonnie, whose other
store is near Aberdeen in Richmond
11th (Wednesday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Myle telling me she's 'pissed off' with Natalie. Maggie
showing me her sparkly ring with a ruby on top, &
describing her visit to a place called 'Red Canyon'
outside of Las Vegas
12th (Thursday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Brought Myle a plain yogurt from a place on Homer. Told
Told Maggie I'd buy her flowers on her birthday. Bonnie
describing a place on River Rd called Night Market
13th (Friday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Maggie showing me the photos of Red Canyon, which is
striking landscape. Myle saw an image of the Statue of
Liberty, in Vegas. Pointed at it & said, 'I went shopping
there. I saw it!' Walked to sushi place on Robson with
Bonnie. Told me she prefers Japanese food to Korean, &
seems to be expert in that type of cuisine. Hot sun this
afternoon
14th (Saturday) [Girl from Hong Kong]
Visited Bonnie at her store in Richmond, & then Aberdeen
Food Fair, where I texted Myle. Extremely hot
15th (Sunday)
Some nice drama at the PGA in Wisconsin, won by Kaymer
Saw Vesna off, to Serbia for the next month. The extreme
heat continues
17th (Tuesday)
Myle telling me she'd been sick for two days with stomach
cramps. Brought her hot water & won ton soup. Called later
& said she'd been too busy to eat, or even go to the
bathroom. Great talk with Reanne, who's about to start a
work titled 'Beautiful Nightmares'. Always inspiring to
talk to her
19th (Thursday)
Showing Reanne the portrait, Cindy & Vicki coming over
to have a peek at it. Showing Myle & Vicki the collage
M. wants her face to look thinner, & V. asked, 'Is she
really writing a book?' Showed Bonnie the portrait
Laughing, said she thought it looked better than her,
& wanted to photograph it. Yvonne & Marg were quite
excited about it, & kept saying, 'You should sell them.'
21st (Saturday)
Reanne saying how much she liked my portraits, & how we
are both totally against art schools. Myle with a bad
migraine. Bought her some candy. Sent her a text in the
afternoon, & received a charming one back. Received a
bag of blueberries from Maggie. The Zombie Parade down
Robson in the warm, late summer sunshine. Took a photo
of Sachiyo, & the girl from Yokohama, both of the laughing,
with one of the 'Zombies'
24th (Tuesday)
Enjoyable conversation with Bonnie, who laughed a lot &
described her bunji jumping experience in Nanaimo
Scanned one of the photos of the portrait, & sent it to
her uncle in Hong Kong
