my first artistic effort, in wax crayon.
safe to say I showed zero potential,
and it stayed that way until one evening ten years later
it suddenly came together. In school
I seem to remember the girl who sat in front of me
drew in the tiny elephant in red
and probably added the front legs & horizon line too.
another kid showed the way
an elephant's trunk is SUPPOSED to look.
the apple tree in the background was probably mine.
to this day I've never drawn another elephant,
or an apple tree either for that matter.

more of a sunset than anything. Sawako in

An awesome, frigid wind. Grey/black clouds
on the horizon, the waves as large as I've
seen them there, close one behind the other
thundering into the shore. Quite surreal
