It's interesting to see how different artists
interpret the same subject. I suggested to
Reanne Seenath, an artist friend, that we
each do a drawing with jellyfish as a
theme.
My jellyfish evolved as a sort of metaphor
for veils, drifting across oriental eyes.
Reanne created a dreamy, abstract image
called 'Jellyfish, evolving', that evokes for
me their graceful movement through the water.
I loved it the moment I saw it; and I find it
endlessly fascinating to interpret.

Myle called before nine, asking if I'd be
in before 11. Told me her trip was a little
disappointing. One of her sisters was
making it difficult. Called later in the
afternoon about the envelope, & told me
she's making shrimp & pork dumplings this
evening. Greek food with Natalie this
morning at the Food Fair. Telling me about
someone in her face, & telling them to 'get
lost'. 'Crash?' I asked. 'No, Tyler.'
23rd (Wednesday) [Oriental Eyes, Oriental Veils)
Eating doughnuts with Natalie at Tim
Horton's underground. Her last day until
January. Told Myle that Natalie says 'Hi'
'Is that all?' she asked. 'No hug?'
24th (Thursday) [Oriental Eyes, Oriental Veils]
Walked with Myle yesterday to RBC & the
exchange on Pender, & went back again
twice for her. Talked about going with her
& Natalie to Seattle. I suggested dropping
me off at the art store & meeting up with
them later. Myle paused, & then said, 'No,
you need to carry bags.' Also talked about
visiting her Dad's grave, & even Hong Kong
25th (Friday)
X-mas in Abbotsford. Winter branches all
covered with frost, & veiled in mist
26th (Saturday)
Called Myle from Abbotsford this morning
Told me she called my # around 5:30 am to
prove she was in the store. Asked if I
sounded okay on that phone. Told me I
sounded 'a bit robotic'. Frost, mists, &
sunshine along the river from Mission to
Coquitlam. Vesna came over to watch 'Take
the Money & Run'

Banter with Yajing this afternoon, wearing
a white jacket & scarf in the store. Helping
her pronounce 'prescription'

Myle called just after 9:30 this morning
Bought me a lovely notebook with a gold
cover to keep my journal for next year
Remembered the date of my birthday too...
won't see her again until next week

Hair cut short by a Vietnamese girl on Davie, with
elegant hands. Down the Rabbit Hole this evening
3rd (Sunday) [Oriental Eyes, Oriental Veils]
Watched first half of 'Gone With the Wind' with Vesna
tonight. Thought the hair looked good she said, more
than once
4th (Monday) [Oriental Eyes, Oriental Veils]
Reanne looks at me & says, 'There's something different
about you, I can't put my finger on it.' Later on told
me she thought it looked good, & that she'd picked out
a wedding dress & was working on the jellyfish. 'Gone

5th (Tuesday)
Natalie back at work this morning, described how much
she's been eating, pizzas, cheese-covered popcorn,
chips, etc. In the middle of the conversation stopped to say
she liked my hair short. 'Did you give a tip this time?' she
asked, laughing. First thing Myle says to me : 'You got a
haircut.' Described how she got drunk on New Years,
drinking Crown Royal & singing karaoke
6th (Wednesday)
Hot water & American money for Myle, chocolate candy
for Natalie. Vesna called, inviting me to Orthodox Xmas
dinner tomorrow
7th (Thursday)
Photographing laundry on Hastings & stretched paper for
the next drawing. Image of a trembling woman, with her
crack pipe, in a doorway on Cordova. Orthodox Xmas
dinner at Vesna's. Heavy rain, thinking about Myle, and
things
