lobby. Her name is Donna. Lives on the 8th
floor. Jing Yuan asking me if she looked
thinner. Has a kidney ailment

1st (Sunday)
After 25 years of hearing about it, saw
'Slap Shot' on Bravo

2nd (Monday)   [Portrait of Roula]
Talked to Roula this morning, who heard
'Frida' wasn't very good. Shab too
Afternoon tea at Blenz Broadway, while
reading 'Rembrandt'. In the background
Clapton, a steady stream of faces
flowing past, & a view of Hollyburn Mtn
in early winter mist. Donna came by
with pamphlets. Shari in fine form on
the telephone. Talked of me being
'tenacious' in my 'quiet' way

Dark band of fog at English Bay this
evening, what was left of the twilight

reflected faintly on the water, brought
to shore in silvery arcs by the movement
of the waves. On both sides the city
lights shimmering through the mist

Talking to Roula this morning about the
next portrait. Told me, 'I'll wear
anything you want.'

Good review of math work this afternoon
at UBC, & good read at Barn Cafe. Showed
Roula the portrait this evening in the
staircase 'Gallery'. Told me she liked
this one the best, & I think she meant it
