Holly telling me she needs a
vacation, talking about
deciding between Cuba & Paris
Recommended Cuba, as being
more interesting to
photograph

5th (Saturday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Showed some of the drawings
to Laura, who was most
impressed with the 'Fuji'
pastels. A few minutes later,
talked to Myle. Started the
portrait early this afternoon,
golf & the war in the
background. Trying to find a
rubber rat, dropped in on
Alexis who complained about
Betty & showed me a snapshot
of herself with - a
striking blonde. Told Lani
that I had an important
question to ask her. Guy in
front wanted to know what
the question was. Both of
them amused that I was
trying to find a rubber rat
Cold & damp today, with
heavy rain this evening

6th (Sunday)   [Girl from Saigon]

7th (Monday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Roula phoning Toys R Us to ask
if they had a rubber rat. Working
on the drawing this evening,
listening to Billie Holiday on
the jazz show, outside a steady
heavy rain falling

8th (Tuesday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Email from Nayeon. Laura helping
in the search for a rubber rat
Raining heavily again this
evening

9th (Wednesday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Watched Saddam statue tumble
from early this morning to late
this evening. Talking about it
with Heather outside, & my
opinion of - , that amused her
Saw 'Spirited Away' at
Tinseltown

10th (Thursday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Shari was there when I arrived
at Sinclair, checking out the
newspaper for used cars. The
'amazing flow' was quite
impressive this morning. Anne
was busy with a customer, but
she waved when she saw me. Gave
Persia a better photo of the
portrait. Other picture is on
her fridge, told me her mother
was very impressed, & said I
got the nose 'perfect'
Showed her 'Seahorse Menuetto'
which she said she 'absolutely
loved.' All in all, she was
very charming. Enjoyed 'Survivor'
this evening. A short, heavy
shower of rain tonight

11th (Friday)   [Girl from Saigon]

12th (Saturday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Walking along Burrard, talking
to a girl who lives down the
hall. At Harbour Centre, a
charming Chinese girl at one
of the concessions. Admiring
the red lanterns, she told me
I could buy one from her, as
she was wanting to replace
them. TV turkey dinner, with
chocolate donuts & Pepsi, at
Shari's. Intriguing grey skies,
walked past downtown arena,
that was alive with
anticipation, even outside
Walking through Yaletown,
walked past a seafood
restaurant, heard a cheer
through the open door, & a
pretty waitress with curly
hair told me Canucks had
scored the first goal

13th (Sunday)
Dramatic Masters. Nice to see
Mike Weir win

14th (Monday)   [Girl from Saigon]

15th (Tuesday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Nice chat with Roula this morning
Gave her a set of photos of the
four portraits. Helping me out

with the modeling for 'The Burial
of Karl Marx', next Thursday
Gave Anne a photo of 'Seahorse
Menuetto'. Describing the 'Karl
Marx' idea, & suggested she had
the 'right look' for the drawing
She's a little reluctant, worried
about 'not looking good', but I'm
hoping I can get her to do it

16th (Wednesday)   [Girl from Saigon]
Walking along Granville in a
light rain, woman in a wheelchair
asking for money near the old
Vogue Theatre. 'You with the
glasses smile, at least you look
handsome.' More light rain this
afternoon, along Burnaby a girl
wearing a skirt over jeans, with
lots of colour, carrying a large
red cloth strawberry. Dark pink
blossoms mingling with fresh
green leaves everywhere in the
West End

17th (Thursday)
Shopping for a beret, & research
for the next drawing. 'Muffin'
break this evening, while a
steady rain was falling

18th (Friday)
Nice talk with Melinda. Got her
to try on the beret. Told her
she looked great, & she did
Sitting upstairs by the large
windows, reading 'Patton',
seagulls circling against a sky
with clouds of every variety, &
a little blue sky. Canucks/
