September
10th (Sunday)
Sleeping on the sofa, around 8am
reading 'Hendrix' under the covers,
sipping a Diet Coke, looking out at
the pier, & white sails on the
textured, rippling water, San Juan
Islands, Saturna in the distance

11th (Monday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Met Nicki at Davie & Hornby. She's
taking a course in sign language at
VCC, Clarke. Phoned Heather, who
had some very sad news. I was deeply
impressed how calm she was

12th (Tuesday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Email from Ruby! Whose favourites
were the two seahorse pastels. Talking
to Ady for a minute. Asked how it was
going with 'the girls'. All I could do
was sigh

13th (Wednesday)   [Fifa Pastel]
...nice talk with Victoria, who told
me how she once stepped on a poisonous
snake in the Philippines

14th (Thursday)   [Fifa Pastel]
35 years after I saw it at a small
theatre on Kingsway, saw 'McCabe &
Mrs. Millar' at Cinematheque, with
Heather. It was magical. Heather
thought Warren Beatty was 'wonderful',
& we had a good laugh outside, about
the short hippy documentary

15th (Friday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Talking to Bob at Sinclair, who
wanted to know the latest in the
'soap opera'. Liked the Minori
portrait, thought Myle looked 'cold'

16th (Saturday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Lovely warm autumn sunlight

17th (Sunday)
Minori telling me her friends can't
believe the portrait, that her Mom
thinks it's 'creepy'. Meaning I think
how realistic it looks. Asked her if
she wanted to be in 'Sinking Ships,
Blue Tides'. (She did) and explained
to her what the title meant. 'Can we
take the shots Tuesday?' 'Maybe,'
she replied

18th (Monday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Minori wondering what to wear for the
drawing. Thinking about wearing a tie,
doesn't want to wear black. Some heavy

rain this evening

19th (Tuesday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Old Woodward's being torn apart &
trucked off in the warm autumn sun,
framed with dragon clouds in white
Talked to Shari, describing 'Sinking
Ships...', and Heather about Notre
Dame & McCabe & Mrs. Millar

20th (Wednesday)   [Fifa Pastel]
... Met Heather at Fresgos with 'Survivor'
& a jar of jam. Walking down Davie in a
steady downpour, coloured light everywhere
glowing through the dark air. Told
'California Girl' that I was an artist,
& that she brightened up the dark
afternoon for me. 'Thank you!'

21st (Thursday)   [Fifa Pastel]
A bit of conversation with the foxey
little Korean girl, Robson Market. She's
from Seoul, lives in Burnaby. A lovely
Oriental girl, on Bidwell near Davie,
radiant in the autumn sunshine. Making
a fuss over two small white dogs

22nd (Friday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Lovely sunset in White Rock, orange
light reflections off clouds above Birch
Bay & glimmering on the water, a streak
of molten red on the western horizon,
with blues lightening into green

23rd (Saturday)   [Fifa Pastel]
Changing light bulbs at Shari's. Showed
'California Girl' a couple of portraits
& 'Japanese Gothic'

24th (Sunday)
Ryder Cup early this morning from
Ireland. Happy to see Euros win. Showed
Korean girl some of the portraits
Asked if I needed a model

25th (Monday)
Cheeseburgers with Heather at DQ
Hastings, bought a doll (for Meltdown)
at a thrift shop nearby, & then took
the bus to Main. Browzing through an
old record store. The Empress at her
petulant worse this morning; pleasant
wave to the Korean girl, who was busy
with customers this afternoon. Clear &
hot
