text messages [Richard : Susan]

Nov 12
So I'm starting a large
drawing in a few weeks
called 'The Muse & the
Crucified Artist'. Which
pretty much sums up
how I've been feeling

[OMG! You are a great
artist. Why do you feel
crucified? Is it because
of your Muse?

[It will probably be a
great painting. I look
forward to seeing it]

Nov 14
Susan, thank u for your
support. So the
drawing has a Calvary
setting, is a little
gruesome & very
heavy on the
metaphors

[Fabulous! Can't wait to
see it!]

text messages [Richard : Reanne]

Hey Reanne, starting a
large format drawing
tomorrow that's sort
of an extension of the
whole 2017
experience. Dying to
to tell u about it!!

Do u have any time for
tea in the next few
days?

[We can get together on
Monday!]

text messages [Richard : Fran]

Hey Fran...
I have this idea for a
large drawing I want
to start in a day or
two, using one of the
photos of you from the
victoria shots. It's in a
Calvary setting in the
grand tradition of
Rembrandt & Goya
and functions on a lot
of different emotional
levels, metaphorically
and personal. A totally
powerful image!

I'm thinking you'd like

it, but if you'd rather
not be in my art
anymore just tell me &
I'll move on

So I needed a crowbar
for the Crucified Artist
drawing. On sale for
half price at Canadian
Tire!! ..... Divine
intervention?

[Totally!]

text messages [Richard : Fran]

Hey Fran, it's Richard
I'm guessing this
drawing will be
interpreted a hundred
different ways. But
whatever they see (or
think they see) I hope
they can feel just how
deeply the artist's
feelings are for her.
And that the muse is a
symbol or metaphor for
resurrection... And
they'd be right
if they're
thinking that no woman
can make a drawing
come alive like
Frangelica Atherton
can!

Hoping that you'll
always trust me with
your image, & always
hoping you'll be in my
art again. Would love to
hear that everything is
ok

text messages [Richard : Fran]

Fran are u still out
there? Miss you
wherever you are. A
few days ago when I
heard that warning
alert in the middle of
the night, all I could
think about was you

[Hi Richard, yes I am,
hope you are well]

I'm ok, but I'm
guessing you didn't
care much for the last
drawing. Wish I knew
what was wrong

[You get upset when I
don't respond
immediately or in a
way you want me to]

Jan 27
Hey Fran, the last thing
on earth I intended was
to come across
sounding like that. I'm
sorry. I suppose the
deepest truth about the
drawing is that the
crucified artist is a
victim of his own
insecurities &
impatience. But
drawings, like text
messages, can easily
be misunderstood & I
promise I won't display
it anywhere if you're
not happy with it

[I adore every drawing
and would love to
continue working with
you]

All I really want to do is
create art that you're
inspired to be a part of.
All I can hope is that
you'll find it in your
heart sometime to give
me another chance.
Have an awesome
weekend & happy to
see Man City doing so
well!

It looks like our
messages overlapped
there. I won't let you
down

[missed you]

tomorrow?' [Sure do] [How's 1pm?]

19th (Tuesday)
Heavy snowfall this morning, briefly turning the
west end into a winter wonderland. Radka came
in from vacuuming the hallway to have a look at
the drawing. She was suitably impressed &
looking forward to seeing the finished version.
Agreed that it would be more intriguing to
have the hammer with the crowbar. Showed her
the front & back cover of the book, & the
obvious metaphor there, & the last portrait
of Fran, who she thought looked 'mysterious'.

20th (Wednesday)   [The Muse & Her Crucified Artist]
Met Reanne at the Igloo, & had a lovely 2 hours
talking, drinking hot chocolate, & browzing in
the mall
