July 12
So the last few days I've been working on converting
the analog slides from 1988 to digital. I came across
these flower shots that I'd taken in the West End on
the same roll of film. Sending them to you as a sort
of bouquet!
The shot of Burrard Inlet with the mountains in the
background was on the same roll of film.
The other two were taken later in the same year
in November, a sunset at English Bay and that tree
near the seawall at Sunset Beach
So I've worked nearly 3 months on this project and
converted over six thousand slides already, I'm guessing
Working really long hours too, it feels a little surreal
really, on an artistic and personal level, going back
in time like that every day. I'd rather stay in the present
& keep creating new work, but this project couldn't be
delayed much longer because the color dyes in some of the
slides were beginning to corrupt. And I'd rather be doing
this now in the summer before we get together, and
hopefully we can start on the large format drawings
in the fall
I'm thinking by labour day if I'm not finished I should be
very close
And the very first thing I want to work on when I'm done is
a portrait of you
Sending you light & love!! and I'll send you pics every
week from the stuff I'm working on
[Richard!!
You've really lifted my spirit with this gorgeous art! I was feeling so tired,
as I started to look at the pictures I started to feel good energy again.
Thank you so much :)
Each slide is abundant in beauty, a wonderful sight for tired
eyes.
You always take the perfect shot, you know exactly how to tell a rich story
in a single snap. Although the shots are from 88 they could've been taken
today.
I'm so happy you're saving them! A labour of love and a very worthwhile
endeavour
Thank you again for sharing this beauty with me.
Sending lots of love, light and happy creative vibes

Fran hoping you had
a better weekend than
me! So on friday had
a relapse with the
infection and they put
me back on antibiotics
Which means
another week of
drinking tap water &
eating prunes!! :( If
you're feeling better it
would make me SO
happy! :) Sending you
love & light and a
couple of extra
flowers You are the
best!!]

Hi Fran! so the good news is the new meds
have pretty much cleared up the infection, the
bad news is the side effects pretty much messed
up my weekend. Both my feet swelled up and my
right knee too :( Could barely walk for two days,
but the inflammation is way down today
This summer has been the WORST!!
I think you hate this time of year as much
as I do, and I'm counting down the days till autumn
is here, for both of us
Anyway, because I couldn't really sleep at night
or go out, I've
been working up to 14 hours a day, sometimes in
the middle of the night
Sending you some of the stuff I edited this weekend
[78-5] is a view of English Bay at dawn. The group of apartments
on the right is Beach Towers, that I moved into when I was 17
[87-202] is a view of English Bay & Bowen Island from
Burrard Bridge
[86-36] is along the Burlington Northern railway tracks
at Crescent Beach
[86-56 & 98] are sunsets along the Fraser River in
South Van & New West
[86-156] is the church across from Oppenheimer Park,
downtown eastside
[87-57] is the Big W, which was a Vancity landmark for
decades on the roof of the old Woodwards department
store on Hastings. What a funky old place that was! compared to
those pretentious, antiseptic loos like Holt Renfrew
or Nordstroms
[87-90] is a weird reflection of the cupola on the old Sun
Tower on Pender. Makes me think of Salvador Dali
[78-339] I edited this one just yesterday. I have no idea what
or where this was taken, but it has a surreal sort of
feel to it. What does it look like to you?
I threw in the shot of the ferns too. For some reason
I find this image comforting. They're so fragile and
beautiful and across the ages they've survived climate change, meteors
hitting the earth, continental drift, etc. not to mention
dinosaurs stepping on them for millions of years!!
Editing these slides the last three months has been
the most intense, surreal project I've ever worked on!
Looks like I'll be finishing up in early August
Can't wait till I'm done and I can get out of the
past and back into the present again
and start the next portrait of
you!!
July 31
of me and sending me
so much light and love.
BEST GIFT EVER!!!!
How are you doing?
How is your world?
Thank you for being in
my world and
everything you do for
me!! You are so very
special to me
